SPECIMEN 01.1
987,00 €
The SPECIMEN 01.1 watch revolutionizes the tradition of watches with mechanical movements through the use of metallic 3D printing. The watch case, also known as the caseband, is printed in one piece in additive laser fusion manufacturing. This process enhances the raw colours of the metal and allows the shaping of new curved shapes. Watch published in 88 numbered copies with the possibility of a personalized engraving on the back.
Description
The creation
SPECIMEN 01.1 is a unique watch. It is one of the first times that the tradition of watches with mechanical movements is associated with the revolutionary 3D metallic printing technology. Concerned about highlighting the talents of our region, UTINAM Besançon, imagined by Philippe Lebru, has rigorously developed the components of this watch. The watch case, also known as the case middle, is printed with an in additive manufacturing by laser fusion on the equipments the UIMM training centre in Besançon (within its Créativ Lab). At using this technology, the finished part displays the raw colours metal as well as new curved shapes. The needles are manufactured in a century-old factory based
in Morteau, and the bracelet, hand-stitched in a beautiful brown leather, is the work of an bisontine artisanal company. The assembly of all the components of the watch takes place in the workshops
UTINAM Besançon en right in the heart of the watchmaking city. The collaboration UTINAM+STAINLESS+UIMM Being each located at different levels of the production chain: STAINLESS is a distributor of raw materials (metallic powder for 3D printing), UTINAM as a designer of finished products (watches and clocks), UIMM training institute in the industry sector, the partners highlight a collaborative approach that focuses on towards innovation. Their capacity for openness and daring leads to the creation of a watch, which, beyond its function as a watch, is also a first, becomes an ambassador for a new dimension of the chain of value. The supplier-customer relationship is slipping away in favour of a commitment and mutual trust between the three players, with the aim of achieving on each other’s expertise.

The technology
3D printing is new revolution for the world economy. This innovative technology is being implemented over the months in all sectors of the industry. The watch SPECIMEN 01 has been developed in additive melting manufacturing laser. This 3D printing process consists of merging, layer by layer coating, a fine metal powder (supplied by the company STAINLESS) thanks to the action of a laser. This technology allows the deployment of geometrical shapes that are new, or even surprising, that cannot be achieved by classic manufacturing methods. The aim being to bring creativity and innovation to a demanding technical world.
The development
In order to control the manufacturing process additive of this product, Philippe Lebru has surrounded himself with people qualified. The UIMM training centre of Besançon, within its “Créativ Lab”, has a modern 3D printer, allowing the use of metallic raw materials. Teams of trainers, as well as apprentices, are trained in its use and are capable of mastering the production processes required to manufacture the shows SPECIMEN01.
This training centre has therefore been a partner crucial for the smooth running of the project, he participated in the improvement of watch prototypes through its contribution of skills and his instructions regarding the feasibility of the part.
